Job Purpose
To ensure availability, capability, and continuous improvement of vehicle assembly manufacturing facilities for achieving production, quality, cost, safety, and delivery targets. Responsible for planning and execution of capacity enhancement projects, new model introduction, process improvements, automation initiatives, assembly quality improvement, productivity enhancement, and manufacturing cost optimization.
The role also supports technology upgradation, implementation of lean manufacturing practices, digital manufacturing initiatives, and continuous improvement projects to enhance vehicle assembly performance.

Key Technical Competencies

Knowledge of vehicle assembly processes including chassis assembly, engine fitment, transmission fitment, suspension assembly, brake system assembly, electrical fitment, body fitment, trim fitment, wheel alignment, testing and final inspection.

Knowledge of assembly line equipment such as conveyors, manipulators, lifting devices, torque tools, DC nutrunners, hydraulic / pneumatic tools, fixtures, gauges, testing equipment and automation systems.

Understanding of vehicle assembly quality requirements, fitment standards, torque standards, process validation and defect prevention methods.

Knowledge of capacity planning, procurement, installation and commissioning of vehicle assembly facilities, tools, fixtures and equipment.

Experience in process optimization, line balancing, cycle time reduction, productivity improvement and manpower optimization.

Knowledge of assembly cost reduction, tool life improvement, energy saving and running cost optimization initiatives.

Should possess understanding of engineering drawings, process layouts, AutoCAD and 3D drawing software such as Teamcenter / similar PLM systems.

Should have knowledge of budgeting, planning and utilization / execution of capital and revenue expenditure.

Knowledge of Engineering BOM, Manufacturing BOM, process BOM and material flow requirements.

Should have knowledge and exposure in implementation of TPM, Lean Manufacturing, Kaizen, Poka-Yoke, 5S and continuous improvement systems.

Knowledge of MES, traceability systems, Industry 4.0 and IIoT systems in vehicle assembly.

Knowledge of PFMEA, control plan, process validation, work instructions and standard operating procedures.

Understanding of safety requirements related to assembly lines, material handling, lifting tools, ergonomics and equipment guarding.
Key Responsibilities
-
Plan and execute vehicle assembly capacity enhancement projects in line with business and production requirements.
-
Coordinate hassle-free introduction of new models, variants and engineering changes as per management plans.
-
Prepare and execute budget plans for capacity enhancement, tooling, fixtures, equipment and process improvements.
-
Develop, validate and improve assembly processes to achieve quality, productivity, cost and delivery targets.
-
Provide technical support to production teams for resolving assembly line issues related to tools, fixtures, processes, quality and productivity.
-
Coordinate with vendors, equipment manufacturers and tooling suppliers for design, development, procurement, installation and commissioning of assembly facilities.
-
Coordinate with MTD / Automation team to convert manual assembly operations into semi-automated or automated processes.
-
Plan and implement improvements in line productivity, RFT, OEE, cycle time, takt time and line balancing.
-
Support in-house production shops to improve PQCDSM parameters.

Coordinate with R&D, CD, Materials, Quality and vendors for new module development, design reviews and engineering change implementation.

Ensure readiness of assembly line facilities for new product development, pilot builds, pre-production builds and mass production launch.

Review and improve assembly layouts, material flow, manpower deployment and workstation ergonomics.

Implement Poka-Yoke, error-proofing, traceability and torque monitoring systems to improve assembly quality.

Drive cost reduction projects through productivity improvement, automation, process simplification, tool optimization and waste elimination.

Ensure compliance with safety, quality and manufacturing engineering standards across vehicle assembly operations.

Prepare process documentation including SOPs, work instructions, PFMEA, control plans, check sheets and equipment specifications.

Support digital manufacturing initiatives such as MES integration, real-time monitoring, Andon systems, traceability and IIoT-based improvements.
