Job Role & Responsibilities

Role: Power Electronics Engineer

Technical/Functional:

  • Motor Control Unit:
  • Design high-voltage (>96V) motor controllers for BLDC, PMSM, and induction motors used in electric powertrains.
  • Develop inverter power stages, including 2-level, 3-level, and multilevel topologies with MOSFETs, IGBTs, SiC/GaN devices.
  • Optimize gate driver circuits, dead-time control, and protection mechanisms for reliable and efficient switching.
  • Implement DC-link capacitor selection, busbar design, and snubber circuits to enhance system performance.
  • Ensure compliance with ISO 26262 (Functional Safety), EMI/EMC standards, and automotive-grade reliability requirements.
  • DC-DC Converter:
  • Design and optimize isolated and non-isolated DC-DC converters (buck, boost, flyback, forward, LLC resonant, etc.) for EV auxiliary power supplies and high- voltage power distribution.
  • Select and implement high-efficiency power semiconductor devices (MOSFETs, GaN, SiC), magnetics, and control ICs.
  • Perform stability analysis, transient response testing, and loop compensation design for closed-loop converters.
  • Ensure high power density, efficiency optimization, and EMI/EMC mitigation.
  • Design multi-layer PCBs for power electronics applications, ensuring optimized trace routing, creepage/clearance compliance, and thermal dissipation.
  • Work closely with PCB layout engineers to integrate power and control circuits, ensuring minimal parasitics and optimal switching performance.
  • Collaborate with mechanical engineers for enclosure design, thermal simulation, and system integration.
  • Conduct worst-case circuit analysis (WCCA), Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA), and Hardware Safety Analysis.
  • Develop hardware prototypes and conduct rigorous performance testing, thermal analysis, and efficiency characterization.
  • Utilize oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, thermal cameras, and high-voltage test equipment for debugging and validation.
  • Perform power stage simulations using LTSpice, PLECS, PSIM, MATLAB/Simulink, or Ansys Maxwell.
  • Conduct EMI/EMC compliance testing, functional safety assessments, and HALT/HASS testing.

Specific expertise required for functional domain:

  • Knowledgeable about electric vehicle standards and regulations, including ISO 26262 for functional safety, CISPR for EMC compliance, and familiar with the automotive product development process.
  • Strong understanding of DFSS (Design for Six Sigma) methodology.
  • Hands-on experience in designing hardware for Motor Control Unit & DC-DC converter used in automotive, industrial, or medical applications.
  • Skilled in electronic circuit design, schematic capture, and PCB layout development.
  • Proficient in using common laboratory equipment, such as oscilloscopes, digital multimeters, network analyzers, and spectrum analyzers.
  • Experienced in product feature improvement, optimization, and cost reduction strategies.
