Job Context & Major Challenges
The Treasury Manager sits at the front line of the company's funding operations — sourcing quotes, negotiating terms, and closing transactions with banks and select debt market counterparties on a day-to-day basis. The role requires constant coordination with banking partners to secure timely sanctions, competitive pricing, and adequate headroom to meet the business's funding needs, while keeping the Head – Treasury updated on relationship health, pricing trends, and emerging funding opportunities.
Because the role is front-office facing, the jobholder needs to combine strong relationship-building skills with the discipline to execute transactions accurately and within approved limits, escalating pricing or structuring decisions that fall outside a pre-agreed mandate.
Key Responsibilities
Banking relationship management
- Own day-to-day relationships with relationship managers and treasury desks at lending banks
- Act as the first point of contact for banks on limit reviews, documentation, and covenant queries
- Track bank-wise limit utilisation, renewal timelines, and covenant compliance
- Identify and onboard new banking relationships to widen the lender base, in coordination with the Head – Treasury
Funds raising and execution
- Source competitive quotes for working capital and term borrowing from banks
- Execute borrowing transactions (bank term loans, cash credit/OD lines, NCDs, CPs) within approved mandates and limits
- Negotiate pricing, tenor, and terms within the framework set by the Head – Treasury
- Coordinate documentation, disbursement, and settlement of borrowing transactions with internal Treasury Operations and legal teams
- Track upcoming redemptions/maturities and flag rollover requirements well in advance
Market and relationship intelligence
- Monitor short-term interest rate movements, bank pricing trends, and peer borrowing costs
- Share regular updates with the Head – Treasury on funding market conditions and relationship developments
- Flag opportunities for cost reduction or diversification (e.g., new lenders, new instruments) for the Head – Treasury's consideration
Operations and compliance support
- Ensure all borrowing transactions are processed per SOPs, with accurate transaction records and disclosures
- Support the Head – Treasury with data for internal MIS on bank-wise borrowings, COB, and limit utilisation
- Assist with statutory, internal, and concurrent audit requirements relating to bank borrowings
- Ensure adherence to RBI/FEMA guidelines applicable to bank borrowings
Critical Skill Sets
- Strong, established relationships with banking relationship managers and treasury desks
- Good understanding of bank borrowing instruments (term loans, CC/OD, NCDs, CPs) and pricing conventions
- Strong negotiation and communication skills
- Ability to work within defined mandates while managing multiple relationships and deadlines simultaneously
- Comfort with basic financial analysis and market tracking
Major Challenges in the Role
- Securing timely sanctions and adequate limits as the business scales
- Maintaining competitive pricing across a growing set of banking relationships
- Balancing relationship-building with disciplined, within-mandate execution
- Keeping documentation and compliance current across multiple active lenders
- Spotting early signs of pricing or relationship risk and escalating promptly
Education & Experience
- MBA (Finance), CA, or equivalent postgraduate qualification
- 4–7 years of relevant experience in treasury front office, corporate banking relationship management, or debt capital markets
- Demonstrated experience directly managing bank relationships and closing borrowing transactions
