Job Context & Major Challenges
Treasury at Bajaj Auto Credit Limited is responsible for mobilising and deploying funds at optimal cost, managing asset-liability risk, maintaining regulatory liquidity buffers (LCR), hedging interest rate and currency exposure, and sustaining relationships with a broad base of lenders and investors — all while supporting the growth of the company's lending book.
The Head – Treasury owns this mandate end-to-end: setting the borrowing strategy in consultation with the CFO, leading negotiation and closure of funding transactions across NCDs, CPs, bank lines, and ECBs, and building a resilient, diversified funding base that can flex with business growth. The role also carries full accountability for the team's output, for regulatory and audit compliance, and for representing Treasury at ALCO, RMC, and Board levels.
Key Responsibilities
Funding strategy and market execution
- Own the overall borrowing strategy and calendar, in consultation with the CFO
- Mobilise funds through private placement/public issue of NCDs and CPs, and through bank lines
- Raise External Commercial Borrowings (ECBs) from overseas lenders and DFIs, maintaining strong global banking relationships
- Time market entry to minimise cost of borrowing; track interest rate movements, credit spreads, and investor appetite
- Decide and adjust the borrowing mix (short vs. long tenor, bank vs. market) to meet cost and diversification objectives
Relationship management and investor diversification
- Build and sustain senior-level relationships with banks, mutual funds, insurance companies, corporates, FIs, and international lenders
- Continuously widen and deepen the investor base across domestic and international markets
- Manage the rating agency relationship and credit rating review process
Liquidity and investment management
- Direct investment of surplus funds in G-Secs, T-Bills, and other approved securities to meet LCR requirements
- Work with the ALM/Cashflow teams to plan liquidity, minimise negative carry, and optimise returns on surplus funds
Risk management and hedging
- Own the interest rate and currency hedging strategy (OIS, IRS, futures, and other derivatives) for the borrowing book
- Ensure MTM, valuation, and reporting of the debt and investment portfolio are accurate and timely
- Build and maintain a robust risk management framework covering credit, market, and liquidity risk
Team leadership and operations
- Lead, mentor, and manage the Treasury team (Debt Markets, Investments, Treasury Operations)
- Oversee end-to-end execution, settlement, and documentation of all borrowing and investment transactions per SOPs
- Drive automation and digitisation of Treasury systems and processes
Compliance and governance
- Ensure full compliance with RBI, SEBI, FEMA, NHB, and FIMMDA guidelines applicable to Treasury operations
- Ensure Treasury is fully prepared for statutory, internal, and concurrent audits
- Present funding, investment, and risk positions to ALCO, RMC, the Board, and senior management
- Provide accurate data for central MIS (COB, COF, budgets, projections)
Critical Skill Sets
- Strong background in financial modelling and analysis
- Deep expertise in domestic and international debt capital markets
- Strong track record reading and acting on interest rate and market movements
- Demonstrated leadership managing a mid-to-large treasury/finance team
- Excellent negotiation and stakeholder-influencing skills, including at CXO/Board level
- Strong existing network across banks, DFIs, mutual funds, and rating agencies
Major Challenges in the Role
- Securing funds at optimal cost in volatile domestic and global markets
- Balancing currency, interest rate, and liquidity risk across a growing book
- Reading market direction early enough to act on it
- Structuring innovative funding solutions (securitisation, structured debt, bond arbitrage) where standard instruments fall short
- Continuously diversifying the investor base to avoid concentration risk
- Staying ahead of evolving regulatory requirements across RBI, SEBI, and FEMA
Education & Experience
- MBA (Finance), CA, CFA, or equivalent postgraduate qualification
- 10–13 years of relevant experience in corporate treasury, debt capital markets, or NBFC/banking treasury
- At least 5+ years in a leadership role managing borrowings, investments, ECBs, and full treasury operations
